Mom is the best articulator of our activities, but I will give
you a brief idea of how things are going here.
Last week a member an inactive member called and talked to mom
about coming back to church. She was converted and baptized in
Honduras. We described how to get to church and sent her a pin of
the church location and she came to church last Sunday. She is just
a delightful person and everyone in the branch loved her. She will not
let us come to her home to teach her because of her husband. She will
work on him and the branch will look for opportunities to get to know
them. We know she will make her way back, and we look forward to a future
teaching opportunity.
Also last week a member of the church who came to the island to
help a friend rebuild his house came to church. He asked if any of
the members needed help. We suggested our Sister Ferguson.
He followed her home and set up a work project to repair her roof.
I couldn't see how he could tackle that kind of a project by himself.
So, I told him I would help. It was a long, long Saturday.
The more roof we removed the worse it got. There was a lot of dry
rot and termite damage. We had to finally stop replacing the Plywood sheeting
or we would never finish. It rained hard several times during the day and
a lot of water got into her home. We spent all day removing the roof and
putting new galvanized tin back on. I have to admit that I didn't
think I was going to last long enough to get it done. We had to get the
roof back on though because it rains here every day. I was so sore
the next few days I could hardly walk or get up and down. To my dismay
the roof still leaked a couple of days later. Yesterday guess what, we
were back on the roof removing sheets and putting down tar on the laps and put
sheets back on. We finished the edges and replaced a damaged ridge
cap. I haven't dared call her to see if the roof held.
I can't imagine it will leak but I didn't think it would the first
time.
After getting some rest, mom and I went to sister Dye's
daughters to help her remove a fridge from her home. Last night she sent
us a text thanking us. She came to church with her son today, they aren't
members of the church. We were so happy and so was her mom.
We have also been delivering some of the food the church sent to
the island to the members and non-members.
We had 4 investigators to church today. The Lord is
pouring out his spirit and because of our previous work on building
relationships, opportunities for teaching have and will come. We
will teach a new investigator tomorrow, Milagro a previous
investigator on Wednesday, possibly another investigator on Tuesday,
and we are going to set up an appointment with Sister Dye's daughter and son
too. We are so excited. Sister Dye's daughter Chearoll said
she has been reading the BOM, and she wants us to teach she and her son
Makari. Makari is 14 years old and is a fine young man. I can see
him becoming a priesthood holder and future missionary.
There were 41 in attendance at Sacrament meeting. It was a
wonderful Fast and Testimony meeting. The spirit was very
strong. The mission fasted and prayed for people to teach and
baptize today. We feel like our prayers are already being
answered.
The Branch is being blessed, we feel it every day.
Of course, there are disappointments and conditions are rough for many of
the members, but we feel a spirit of optimism.
We love you all so much. We are so grateful for
you. We pray for you all and know you are being blessed.
We miss you all. We have been so blessed.
Love Mom and Dad
