Chicken Noodle Soup Day

I was visiting with Lara this morning about how cold it is today. Memories of snowy childhood days came back to me and I can't get them out of my head.
Until I was 12 or 13 years old, we lived in a different house than my mom lives in now. It was at the edge of a gully. In the summertime, we hung ropes from the trees and swung tarzan-like over the steep slopes. In the winter, the slopes were fashioned into sledding trails where we would gather with our friends and spend hours flying down the hill. When we would get too cold or wet, we would trundle on home. We had those old fashioned galoshes that you pulled on over your shoes. They had no insulation, just a rubbery coating to keep you dry. They were hard enough to tug on over your shoes, but even harder to pull off when your fingers were numb and stiff from the cold.
I remember what fun we had when there was fresh snow, like today. I also remember how cold and wet we were when we went home. We had a furnace vent on the floor in the kitchen. I would sit down on the floor next to it and let the warm air defrost me. Mom would heat up a can of my favorite...Chicken Noodle Soup...and I would sit on the floor and suck in the noodles and drink the broth.
It's really cold and snowy outside today. I am trying to resist the urge to sit on the floor next to the heater vent and slurp some soup.
